deka wanko is peak cinema

 

well, maybe i'm exaggerating a little - but deka wanko is a really fun ride, and i wish more people talked about it in the year of our lord 2026.

 

deka wanko is a 2011 j-drama that follows ichiko "wanko" hanamori, a homicide detective with the sniffing power of a bloodhound, and the rest of her division as they solve a variety of crimes. it's based on a 2008 manga by the same name, but i haven't read it, so this post is about the tv drama only.

i'm not sure why they chose this coord to put on the cover, i think her other outfits are more fashionable lol

some background on the show and how i found it -- i'm always looking for ways to enjoy this fashion even when i'm not out and about while wearing it, so movies and film are a good way of doing that. that being said, accurate depictions can be a bit tough to find, and i'm a stickler for things being just right, so i was happy to stumble across an old blog post recommending some. i'm not a big fan of tokusatsu, so i was intrigued when the blogger detailed a brief premise of a lolita cop/detective show where the main characters wears a lot of angelic pretty. "fun," i thought, "cop shows are my guilty pleasure, and i love angelic pretty."

 

my expectations were set for a fairly conventional and just-fine short tv show. i'd heard literally nothing about the show until now - absolute crickets compared to the legendary kamikaze girls, or even lesser-known media, like these are clothes i want to wear. (side note, i want to re-read this and blog about it sometime.) the lack of chatter around it made me assume that it would be nothing special, just something i could watch in the background, occasionally pointing out dresses and prints i liked, and that would be that. but when the show started with our protagonist buying charms at angelic pretty to put on her gun, i knew i was in for something a little more interesting than that.

deka wanko exceeded my expectations a hundred times over. i won't spoil the exact plot details of this show, but i have some thoughts!

it's been a few months since i went to a comm meet! for various weather and safety reasons, most of the meets i was going to attend ended up cancelled, so i was very very excited to join this one. not only because it's been a while, but because the event was very cool and like nothing i've really seen before!

fleurs de villes, a flower art show of sorts, came to our state for just a few days to display a number of literal floral fashion arrangements. emphasis on the literal - everything was made out of real, living flowers and other plants!

nice to meet you, and welcome to my lolita fashion blog!  

i've really enjoyed reading people's j-fashion blogs for many, many years now, and so despite the fact that it's (as of writing) 2026 and that era has largely passed, i wanted to start my own. there's something very sweet and very comforting about those 2010s kawaii aesthetics and simple j-fashion blogs that that completely dominated the internet back in my youth, so this one is modeled after both! i want to use this blog to document the fun things i get up to with this hobby of mine. it's fun to have a collection of memories to document and reminisce upon - and maybe others will be interested in taking a peek.

 

very briefly, a little bit about me - as of writing, i'm a 22 year old recent college grad living in the midwest. my favorite style is sweet (unsurprisingly) and i specifically love 2010s sweet and chocolate + cookie themes. i've been interested in this fashion since i was a kid, i started wearing it on and off in 2017, but only started getting seriously into it in 2025, when i finally had access to both adult money and post-college free time hahaha. even though it's been a long time, i probably only have about 2 years of cumulative experience. i'm still at the beginning, i think.
