animal crossing aquarium meet

i don't often go to the mall of america on account of it being a massive, sprawling, extremely loud labyrinth of storefronts and rollercoasters aimed a little more at tourists than at locals, but when a meet was planned for the sealife aquarium during their collaboration with animal crossing -- as a lifelong animal crossing fan, i was unable to resist the siren's song of themed decorations and mascot costumes.

my coordinate was themed after kicks, my favorite NPC in the series. i agonized for a good long while on what would best suit him, coordinate-wise, but i think i'm really happy with the result. the bustle of my shirring princess is kind of skunk-stripey, and the furry cape plus stuffed skunk purse really helped me get some kind of resemblance to my little guy :-D

washing your lolita can be daunting and nerve-wracking to newcomers and seasoned wearers alike. there's enough horror stories out there about bleeding prints and ruined dresses to make one second guess getting that jumperskirt wet -- but it's important nonetheless! just like any kind of clothing, your lolita needs to be carefully washed and freshened up between wears to keep it in good shape. it takes a little extra care and time than the average t-shirt and pants, but it's worth it to keep your precious things in good shape. there's a lot of amazing resources on the web to help you with laundry, so there's really no excuse to not wash your clothes. doing something like that can be far more catastrophic than a bit of bleeding.

especially if you intend to give that dress to someone else.

here's a funny little story from april. be warned that there are some grody photos in this one.

demonic betty bop

SOMEHOW i have never in my life been to a drag show. i think this is a travesty because not only do i think drag artists are great, i also live in a state where on any given day i could literally just go out and find a drag show to go to. and yet, i never do, i'm always so busy and/or tired. they are GOING to take away my gay card for this.

until now! a few weeks ago, my partner bought us tickets to one suzie toot's one-woman show, suzie with a z. we found out about her during our bizarre rupaul's drag race phase last year (i get that it's schlocky reality tv, but all of the queens are such skilled artists!!!!) and continued to follow her career after the show ended. i was there when literal government officials unsuccessfully tried to beef with her...

in any case, suzie toot is an incredibly iconic and skilled performer, and we are a suzie toot stan household (pet cat included) and so it follows that we HAD to go see the show. and get VIP tickets so we could sit in the front and say hi.

i didn't really have anything to match the 1920s cabaret theming of her act (other than my radio bag, which kinda fits the bill?) so i just went for something generally cute and stylish. i am SO pleased with this coordinate, i cant believe i haven't really coorded this dress with pink before whatt.. it brings out the pink icing so nicely.

my emo bang is getting long.... i need a haircut

christmas in july

today, one of my comm members threw a christmas in july party at her house! it was a good excuse to bring out the outfits that don't really get to see the light out day outside of winter. (perhaps it was unwise to wear them in this awful heat we've been having, but it was still so much fun regardless!!)

say "no," get chocolate!!!

i'm a little bit of a passive person. i don't like to inconvenience or upset people, so i have trouble saying "no" to others, and i have trouble standing up for myself when i'm being mistreated. it's something i've been trying to work on.

i've been doing better at it lately.  it's kind of small in the grand scheme of things, but i've been standing my ground and giving a polite but firm no when others overstep. i find that it goes both ways, though -- the people i love appreciate the communication, and i appreciate their willingness to listen. we both appreciate the others' mutual respect.

(on the other hand, strangers have gotten angry with me sticking up for myself, but after getting over the initial shock of such a bizarre reaction, all i can do is giggle. does this make me sadistic or something...?)

it seems kind of obvious writing it all down, and maybe it's a little late in life to learn this skill as a twenty-three year old adult BUUUT i'd rather be a late learner than continue to have the backbone and self-respect of a soggy doormat, right. it's been good for me and my relationships.

and because i am SPOILED and PAMPERED like a LITTLE DOG OF SORTS, my partner took me out to a cafe for "good job not being a wimp" dessert. (my words, not theirs, they're very nice to me.) i dressed up because it makes me happy and i'm running low on cool air-conditioned opportunities to wear this fashion (oh my god please end summer forever.)

summer ILD 2026

the 6th was summer international lolita day, and our comm's wonderful organizers put together a tea party to celebrate! the party was fairy themed, and the organizers and attendees absolutely turned it out. i looked forward to it for weeks, and it did not disappoint. the admins and mods went the extra mile to make this happen and make it amazing, so i'm really grateful to them for all the hard work.

i was hoping to get this written up the same day i went, but i've spent the past twenty-four hours or so recovering from the big day. that being said, i'd do a big tea party like this again in a heartbeat, chronic illness be damned. coord below and more details under the break, as always.

this picture was taken by the amazing @ruffleroad on instagram. ^_^

i'm well aware that i've been alternating between my two skirts and nothing else -- but it's summer!! there's no way i'm wearing a jumperskirt to anything that requires more than five seconds outdoors LOL

end-of-may birthday bashing

after an extremely eventful week, i spent the weekend going out and celebrating with friends! not for my own birthday, but for their birthdays.

my partner and i, as one last birthday hurrah for them, went and saw the backrooms movie on its opening weekend. i won't spoil it here, but it was a solid 8/10 in my book. though -- maybe i have to raise that rating because i've started getting scared of the backrooms appearing in my house late at night lol.

tried to do a coordinate to match the movie. turns out it's kind of hard to pin down a matching outfit to a weird kind of abstract setting like this. but there's yellow! so it works!?
