birthday party and mario kart

long time no post! i didn't really do anything frilly for most of september, aside from one or two very casual outings i didn't feel up to posting about. a combination of warm weather, no energy, and no big meets with my comm made september rather unfashionable - but now, it's finally october, and things are finally getting a little chilly and a little festive.

the first big thing to celebrate was my dear friend wyrm's birthday!! wyrm and i have been friends for a little over three years now. we actually met before he was into lolita and while i was on an extended break from the fashion, and we jumped back into it at around the same time. our friendship is pretty unique because he's both a lolita friend and a non-lolita friend at the same time -- the only person i know to hold this designation (at least until i convince my partner to dress up with me hueh hueh...)

so i decided to dress up for his birthday party! something a little bit more casual, though, since it was his big day. ^_^

(this skirt has accidentally become The Thing i wear to other people's birthdays. i feel like it's fun and festive, but also casual enough that it's not giving off "I'M ONE UPPING YOU AT YOUR PARTY!!!!" vibes.)

the party was an all-day affair with two parts -- for the first couple of hours, wyrm and a bunch of our friends went to the ren faire! i unfortunately couldn't make it on account of work and a one-car-household situation, but everyone's costumes looked really really amazing :-D we were luckily able to make it to the after party, which was just a chill gathering at his and his boyfriend's place. the first thing i did was twist my ankle on the way to their apartment and the second thing i did was eat all their deviled eggs (sorrrryyyyy)

i can't drink, so i opted for baking powder instead. GOOD stuff.

 after everyone arrived, wyrm's bf kindly bought us pizza! there were a few potential activities lined up, but we mainly spent our time playing insane 8 player games of mario kart 8. our friend, a huge mario fan and excellent gamer, kicked our asses every single time and wasnt even sorry about it. i got fourth sometimes, which is basically winning when you're not good at mario kart

 the night was an absolute blast, and it was delightful to hang out with wyrm and everybody else :-) though bad luck tried to strike him down with a headache, he just popped on some sunglasses and kept living it up. that shit is metal dude. lots to learn from his example

 

 you can't beat a classic party formula - friends, food, and everyone sitting on a little couch screaming while they try to kill each other over mario kart.

 

but ENOUGH about me and the fun i had!! wyrm, you are such a fabulous individual!!! i'm so glad i met you and it's been so fun to watch how how our friendship has grown and changed, and it's been so cool to do all these fun things with you. i'm sure we'll have many more fun adventures, both in frills and out. :-) happy birthday, and stay awesome forever, ily!!!!
