christmas in july

today, one of my comm members threw a christmas in july party at her house! it was a good excuse to bring out the outfits that don't really get to see the light out day outside of winter. (perhaps it was unwise to wear them in this awful heat we've been having, but it was still so much fun regardless!!)

we arrived a little bit early, and our wonderful host welcomed us into her beautiful kitschy home. everything was decorated in a festive manner, and a few speakers set the mood with quiet christmas music. of course, the AC was cranked way up to keep everyone from melting.

 trusted plus-ones were allowed to come, provided that they dressed up festively, so my partner came along! (they're hanging out in the background.) as more people poured in, lolitas and friends alike, snacks and summer-friendly festive treats were set out. our host had a variety of sweet and savory food, and some other comm members brought their own additions! it made for a very delicious party.

 

is a meet truly complete without a tea tower?

we all got to talking as we munched on cheeses and pastries - not about anything in particular, just recent happenings, hobby stuff, and fun plans people have. it was fun to catch up with everyone, as well as introduce my partner to the frilly friends they'd heard so much about.

we also all passed around a cute little 80s ice cream maker, cranking it every 20 minutes to make sure it came out just right. eventually, our host brought out a beautiful and fluffy sponge and strawberry cake she'd made, and we got to eat that alongside the homemade soft-serve.

it was a dairy free recipe using eggs instead. super delicious!

at some point, my head started getting sore from my bow, and someone suggested putting it on my partner instead. and look: they're fitting in very nicely, i think!!

conversation and snacking continued, and we also got to visit with the adorable ladies of the house. (there were three, but you'll have to accept my singular photo of just the one.)

 

christmas is not complete without an awkwardly posed family photo. we love each other so much i promise

as evening fell, we said goodbye and headed home for the day. the party was an absolute delight. a relaxed hangout with fun people and delicious food -- is there anything better than that? as always, it was nice to catch up with everyone, and it was really nice to introduce my partner to my friends. (and vice versa.)

it was ALSO nice to go home and get out of my twelve layers of thick fabric  i'll be washing this dress and putting it away for a few more months, i think ...
