end-of-may birthday bashing

 

after an extremely eventful week, i spent the weekend going out and celebrating with friends! not for my own birthday, but for their birthdays.

 

my partner and i, as one last birthday hurrah for them, went and saw the backrooms movie on its opening weekend. i won't spoil it here, but it was a solid 8/10 in my book. though -- maybe i have to raise that rating because i've started getting scared of the backrooms appearing in my house late at night lol.

tried to do a coordinate to match the movie. turns out it's kind of hard to pin down a matching outfit to a weird kind of abstract setting like this. but there's yellow! so it works!?

the day after, we went on a day trip with our good friend for his 21st birthday. he took us to a really cool sculpture park, one that had an emphasis on reclaimed and repurposed materials.

i got to the top of this one, remembered i have a fainting problem, got scared, and skittered back down

a lot of the sculptures welcomed climbing, sitting, and playing, which was super fun!

 

 even the ones you couldn't crawl on were still really fun to see. it's always super neat to see the interesting things artists can create out of things that might otherwise just be junk, thus giving them new life and saving them from the landfill.

this one was one of my favorites!

there was also a pretty good amount of graffiti on the artwork. it makes sense that a completely open field of sculptures might attract that, i suppose... i feel like i should disavow it, but i admittedly thought it was really fun to see, almost enhancing the art. well, maybe that's why they haven't cleaned any of it up?

after our day trip, we spent the evening playing card games together and chatting. it was super fun to get out with everyone and have a fun final few days of may! i hope june will bring us many more good times.
